I have asked myself. “Why do I have to do the things I feel called to do?”. Who’s holding me accountable? No one will know if I don’t do what I feel called to do. Right? But, how much would the world around me change if I did decide to do what I feel called to do?
The life you live continually creates ripple effects. The things you do with your life and the choices you make are like the drops of rain that replenish a pond, lake or reservoir. A few drops of water may seem insignificant, but when they are added together they change the face of the world. They create great bodies of water that have the capacity to sustain life and living creatures.
Unwrap Your Life Like a Gift Box
People often become frustrated when it comes to figuring out what they want to do with their lives. I think people miss out on the best part of their calling(s) when they rush through the beginning phase of discovering their calling(s).
During the process of discovering your life calling(s), you also discover the natural talents, skills and abilities that you have been gifted with. These gifts are gradually unveiled to you as you move toward the call(s) on your life. Think of it as opening a gift box filled with wonderful stuff that was customized just for you.
Don’t Rush Through The Journey
The journey of discovery can be one of the most exciting times of your life if you view it with a positive perspective. A journey can be just as wonderful as an arrival at a destination. The journey contains the experiences that shape the stories that we tell. It shapes our character by the challenges that we overcome and the joys we celebrate along the way.
I came across this video by Marie Forleo and found it to be encouraging. If you don’t know who she is, Marie is an amazing business woman with a wonderful sense of humor. And she enjoys helping other people with their businesses. In this video, she answers a question from a viewer who is specifically asking about being a writer. But I think that the point Marie makes can be applied to whatever you are wanting to do in life.
Although some professions in life require certain types of professional training, you can still apply what Marie says in this video if you are asking yourself, “Who am I to do ______?”.
Before you watch the video, let me share one of my most favorite quotes of all:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
